FLOWERS:
THE SPECIMEN COLLECTION
Seeking a stark presence and simplicity conveyed in an individual flower head .
Influenced by Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arrangement, and refinement .
This seasonal project utilizes both wild and cultivated flowers and follows a self-imposed set of aesthetic criteria . Illuminated by a single light source. Each flower is positioned asymmetrically within a square frame , expressing proportion, balance and a sculptural complexity. Some flowers are photographed at different stages of their life cycle recognising beauty in decay as well as perfection.
