BREAK UP
Earth’s ice serves as the clearest signpost of the accelerated effects of climate change. In the last decade, 1 degree Celsius of global warming is the largest increase since records began. The reduction of the ice sheets, rising sea levels, and the changing composition of the ocean are irreversibly slowing down the currents that drive global weather patterns, causing unpredictable extreme weather events.
Breakup is a series of photographs that set out symbolically, to represent the melting and dispersal of ice at the frozen margins of the earth.
Revell uses micro-scale materials to mimic, represent and imagine impossibly global scenarios, that are recorded from satellites. The highly detailed images depict the creeping of brittle landmasses, sheared coastlines, and drifting ice flows. A series of interpretations of ice, in different states of transition were photographed.
